After two years of planning, renovating, sourcing and planting,
Li Belle Guesthouse opened its doors six months ago at the time
of writing.
When Pieter and Alma opened the door for me, the
smiles and sparkle in their eyes told me just how proud and
excited they are about their completed masterpiece. And who
wouldn’t be! Alma is fanatical about personal touches and told me,
"we didn’t want more than four rooms in case any of our guests felt
crowded or neglected".
The rooms have a French feel with uncluttered
straight lines, refurbished antiques, white linen and clever little
modifications such as mirrors which slide apart to reveal your flat
screen TV. The upstairs suite has a private balcony, which looks out
over the entirety of False Bay and the Helderberg mountains. Your
en-suite bathroom also boasts a hot-jet tub to bubble away at the
day’s sunburn... a good place to go into a trance and reflect on the
day’s events. The guest lounge and breakfast room are separated by a
marble vent-free fireplace and lead you through French doors onto
the sundowner deck and outside stairs to the pool courtyard.
Alma is
also a specialist bridal make-up artist, so if a Cape wedding is on
the cards booking into Li Belle could kill a flock of birds with one
stone. Bride’s make-up... tick, romantic honeymoon suite... tick, rose
garden photos.. tick, relaxed South African hospitality... Tick, tick,
tick! No children under 12.
